Being in N.Y.C. for a few days was like diving into a pool and doing 50 laps…I’m tired but I feel great. The Franklin Hotel on 87th St. was just as described in the book ” New York’s 100 best little hotels” by Allen Sperry. …small but very comfortable rooms. The king sized bed was much appreciated after walking for blocks that added up to miles each day.

Visiting the Metropolitan Museum was sort of overwhelming. The Photography exhibit of Stieglitz, Stiechen, and Strand’s work made me want to invest in a better camera and convert all of my colored landscape pictures to black and white or sepia.

I have to admit that seeing Manet, Monet, Degas and Bonnards paintings brought tears to my eyes.

I sat and stared at this painting by Marie-Denise Villers for so long that I began to feel as though I knew her. Hauntingly beautiful it is believed to be a self portrait…

I’m back home now taking some time to reflect on everything that I saw and felt in N.Y.C…happy to apply the inspiration to my simple life and hopefully do a few cityscape paintings. Today I plan to take a walk on Crane Beach. … Strolling down Madison Ave. and Fifth Ave. was fun but as they say… “There’s no place like Home”.

Walked for an hour on the beach both today and yesterday. Breathing the ocean air was just what I needed especially after such a long stretch of bad weather . Being near the ocean for me is like going to church. In fact I may just walk the beach on Easter morning instead of going to a traditional service. No sermon to patiently sit through …just the peaceful sounds of the waves crashing and seagulls singing… and there’s no need to get dressed up! Definitely a perfect place to celebrate Easter.

“Give up to Grace, for the Ocean takes care of each wave until it reaches the shore.”

Flower Yoga

My friend Whitney took this amazing picture of some very animated buds while she was traveling in California recently.

Maybe it’s because I’ve been doing alot of Yoga lately but to me it looks like they are raising their “hands” in “Sun Salutations”!

I’ve been thinking alot the past few days about Monhegan Island in Maine where I go to paint at least a couple of times a year.
Today I flipped through the pages of weeks and months on my calendar until I came to May. I know that’s when I need to go back to the place where I am completely in my element. It doesn’t matter if it’s cold,or rainy…I always seem to “blossom” when I’m there.
Last Spring it rained for most of the three days that I was on the Island . I took this picture of some tulips that were just as happy as I was…drinking in the rain and just waiting to blossom.

“And the day came when the risk to remain tight in the bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom.”
~Anais Nin

“Every flower is a soul blossoming in nature.”
